Yoshi

It was love at first sight in 1997,
when I went to pick up this four month old pup,
our eyes locked and the connection remained.

Yoshi was the one that everyone loved first
and he in turn loved everyone he met.

A Perfect Gentleman

"To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice,
though in as much as he had four legs, a tail and barked,
I admit he was, to all outward appearances.
But to those of us who knew him
well, he was a perfect gentleman."

-Hermione Gingold

Be it the new frog babies that became part of the family
or foster dogs just passing through, he was willing
to share his space, his toys and his food.

If you are a video game player,
you may see the connection
in the names of the first three dogs.
My grandson Tyler played a big part in naming Yoshi.
He and I played this Nintendo game for untold hours together.
When Shirley Shultzman (Shur-Paws Kennel) blessed me with this honey pied boy I showed him to Tyler with the comment that Nana (me) had got a Yoshi. He told me
"Nana, you can call him Yoshi if you want to,
but that's a dog!"

Thus started my obsession with this breed,
I can't imagine a better introduction than with darling Yoshi.
He was everything a person could want from a dog
and oh so much more
.

This boy will always be imbedded solidly in my heart.

So this is where we part, My Friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.
I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.
Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best.
